BRAIES VALLEY (PRAGSER TAL) & PRATO PIAZZA (PLATZWIESE)

THE VALLEY AND THE LAKE

The valley is situated on the northern border of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park (one of the most extended of Sudtirol) and it is easy attainable through the street for "Valle di Braies" between the village of Villabassa and Monguelfo. The term Braies in Celtic means marsh but the tourist will be noticed that it is an ideal base for a relax vacation thanks to its geographic position. Two places are very famous, thanks to their still intact nature: the lake of Braies (defined the pearl of the Dolomites) and summer alpine pasture of Prato Piazza (2000mt), both point of departure and arrival of many paths. The lovers of winter sport, here put into practice nordic ski and slide or can go to the near ski tracks of "Plan de Corones"; for the people who seek fashionable amusement, in the neighborhoods we remember yourselves the village of Dobbiaco with its lake. The Main Centers are: Ferrara, S. Vito di Braies, Braies di Fuori e Braies di Dentro, but you don't think to find a lot of shops. The Lake of Braies is a small alpine lake (1.496mt) that closes the homonymous valley, it is situated at the feet of the majestic mountain "Croda del Becco".

THE ROUTE AROUND THE LAKE LAKE OF BRAIES

leaving from a little chapel on the coast of the lake you walk araound the "Dolomities Pearl" with the famous mount "Croda del Becco" that is reflected in the water lake. A part of the circuit is made by an staircases and a very evocative wood catwalk. With a short deviation (about 20 min. of walk) you will arrive to the mountain barn "Malga Foresta" where it is possible to eat or to buy typical products.
For who that don't want to walk there are available some boats. Difficulty: easy Time of route: 1,5h

PATH OF TWELVE APOSTLES

Leaving the Braies Lake you climb along a path rather signalled and more difficult, until to arrive to walk along the walls of these 12 peaks. Continuing you go around this Mountainous formation and you can admire the mount Sasso del Signore.
Difficulty: hard Time of route: cause snow along the path we didn't succeed to finish it

PRATO PIAZZA

PATH PRATO PIAZZA TO MOUNT SPECIE

The path start from the parking of Prato Piazza and continues in direction of the Vallandro Shelter (Rifugio Vallandro) where you can see of the trenches and the military shacks of the First World war. It is continued going around the Peak of Vallandro till to arrive to the Cross mails in top to the Mount Species. From a wonderful panorama can here be admired on the Three Tops of Lavaredo and the Val Pusteria… in order not to speak dell' surrounding alpine atmosphere.
Difficulty: middle Time of route:4h round trip.
