SENALES VALLEY (VAL SENALES - SCHNALSTAL)

THE VILLAGES

Senales Valley is famous all over the world for the discovery of Oetzi, the Iceman mummy of Similaun. It is a place where the time seems to be stopped with the alpine farms and the lack of modern confusion. The centers are small and keep intact the flavor Alpine that the modern tourism has taken to other more note areas. The villages are Monte Santa Caterina at the entry of the Valley; Madonna di Senales founded near the Chartreuse of Angels' Mount built around 1326; Madonna di Senales here you can find one of the oldest sanctuary of South Tyrol and the Archeopark (a museum around the life and the story of Oetzi); Vernago with its lake, and Maso Corto with its lifts that lead to the ski area of the glacier and to the place of discovery of the ice man.

River (Rio) Senales cross this valley giving its name to this place. Walking through the paths you will easy find streams and waterfall that with their noise accompanying your stroll.

THE PATH AROUND VERNAGO LAKE

The trail that goes around the (artificial lake) is easy with some ups and downs that don't create any difficulty and allow you to watch beautiful panoramas through forests, tibetan bridges (safe) and some llamas and sheeps. If the lake level is too low you can se the tower of the ancient church of the village.

MADONNA PATH

trail very easy facile percorso through a larch forest that connects the villages of Certosa and Madonna di Senales. Along the trail there are some wooden sculptures representing the life of the mother of Christ.

PATH FROM VERNAGO TO MASO CORTO

Pleasant but long (15km) walk. It starts from the parking in front of Vernago Church following the tour of the lake; when you reach the halfway point you have to take the path to Maso Corto through woods and pastures and even some farms with grazing animals (cattles and sheeps) and farmers at work (in some farms/masi you can also eat typical products) until reaching Maso Corto. The high level difference between start and finish is 300m.
