BIOIS VALLEY and GARES VALLEY

THE VALLEY

Is one of the most attractive dolomiti valleys, the Biois torrent that go through the valley give its name. It is situated in central position between the Marmolada (3.343 m), the Mountain Civetta (3,220 m) and the Pale of San Martino (3,192 m), crowned by the mountain group of the Focobon (3054 m) and from the Cime d'Auta (2,650 m). It is long 20 km, from the Passo of San Pellegrino to Cencenighe Agordino. The valley is connected to the autonomous province of Trento by two ways, Valles Pass (2,030 m) and the San Pilgrim (1,918 m), that respectively lead to Predazzo (Fiemme Valley) and to Moena (Fassa Valley).

CANALE D'AGORDO

The native village of Pope Giovanni Paolo I (Albino Luciani). This is a typical mountain village. Some houses have religious frescos to the walls . Here you can visit the Church, the Pope Luciani Museum, the House of the Rules, the first Cooperative Dairy Partner founded in Italy in 1872 from the archpriest don Antonio Of The Lucia (unfortunately in disuse from different years) and the place where the Austrians built the first brewery of Italy (now restaurant), then bought by the Luciani brothers (the founders of the brewery Pedevana).

PATH FROM GARES TO MOUNTAIN BARN (MALGA) STIA

Si parte dal pittoresco, piccolo abitato di Gares (m 1381) situato poco dopo il paese di Canale d'Agordo. Parcheggiata l'auto nel parcheggio vicino alla Chiesa si trovano subito i cartelli per Malga Stia. Il sentiero all'interno del bosco è un pò ripido e monotono ma una volta imboccata la strada forestala si prosegue abbastanza facilmente fino ad arrivare ai prati ai piedi del Cimon della Stia (m 1785) dove troviamo l'omonima Malga. Da qui si gode un panorama stupendo sulle cime dei Focobon, sull'Altopiano delle Pale e sull'Agner.
